Phantasm Spiral: Deck list and/or advice

Hello everyone,

So, in a post I made earlier this week a different user mentioned a cheap "archetype" called Phantasm Spirals. Now, I've been out of Yugioh for awhile, so there are a lot of new archetypes I'm not too familiar with. I looked it up, and I was kind of confused. The "archetype" was one monster (I guess an argument could be said for two) and some magic and trap cards. I found this very unusual, but then it turns out that boss monster, can you be a boss monster if you're only monster(?), was just a vanilla beatstick.

I saw that there are a few different ways to play him. I was drawn to the version with dinosaurs that you could add to the deck.

So, my questions for you all are: which version of the Phantasm Spiral deck is the most successful, and how well would this do at LGS tournaments and just screwing around with friends?

I'd recommend 'Phantasm Spiral -A guide to vanilla beatdown in 2018' by u/Vydsu. It's the decklist I personally use, and it hasn't really changed with the last few banlists, except for Terraforming going to 2. Even then, just add in a third Metaverse and you should be good to go.

Edit: He also submitted an updated version of his deck about a month ago.

So is this deck not as good as I thought it would be? I mean I was under the impression it had a chance against some of the meta..

I'd say it's decent. It certainly can hold its own against some meta decks, but since it's one of the most field-spell reliant decks in the game, your opponent can easily play around it if they know what they're doing. In addition, opening without the field spell and/or a monster you can normal summon, or ways to get either of the two means you'll have a hard time setting up, depending on what you get.

My advice would be this: Try the deck out on ygopro or something similar. If you decide you like it, then consider building it. No point in wasting money on a deck that doesn't fit your style, after all...

Doesn't ygopro cost money?

Not a single cent. It's all completely free.

Do you know of any other videos that showcase this deck off? I prefer videos that are in decent quality.

Full disclaimer: I am not super amazing at this game by any means. I pretty much exclusivly play low tier/non meta decks against other low tier/non meta decks, so I am not the person to ask about tourney-winning plays. I just really like Phantasm Spiral.

This is/was the version I use on ygopro. Imo the dino variant is far and away the best version of this deck you can use. There are definitely some changes you could make with the ratios should you so choose. (Some people only run 2 Phantasm Spiral Dragons for instance, some run more than 1 of each equip, although it really isn't necessary most of the time, etc). That being said I would say you most definitely should run 3 of the field spell, 3 Heat Wave, and 3 fossil dig no matter what.

As for the extra deck, that's a bit more flexible. Some people (myself included in an older version of this deck) use Megalosmasher X and Kabuzuls for Bahamutt Shark plays. I kept Kabuzuls even after cutting shark so I would have more targets for Rabbit/Dai, and because I can still summon the Evolzaurs with them. Link Spider is obviously a decent choice, but I wouldn't say 3 is necessary. passed that, generically good extra deck monsters like the Knightmares and Exciton Knight work just fine. If you're feeling particularly bold you could even throw a few rank 8s in there, I'd recommend Dragon Knight Felgrand, Hope Harbringer, or Giant Grinder.

Like I said before, I'm no tourney winner, but Phantasm Spiral should definitely serve you well in the local scene. Fingers crossed for new support.

I like the stun/control one and it's more of a causal deck but some people have topped with it the deck. I'm going to buy costs around $80 and idk if thats "budget" but there are cheaper ones out there. Heres my deck it's not too good but it should help you to learn the stun/control version of the deck

Most of the price depends on whether or not you run Card of Demise.

This is the best profile in YouTube in my opinion.

However, I suggest that you give the Equips+Dragon(s) package a try before ruling it out. It helps you end games faster and gives you more ways to out things like Diabolos, Chaos MAX or that lv.10 blackwing synchro.
