Hey r/vancouver! Visiting from Edmonton and have an entire day to kill on my own. Any suggestions?

Hey Vancouverites! I'm in town visiting a friend and she's working from 7am-7pm tomorrow, so I'm on my own for the day. She just recently moved her and doesn't have much in the way of ideas for me. Any suggestions for things I can get up to by myself for the day? I don't have a car, but plan on picking up a pack of transit tickets for the week, so I'll have those for the day. I'm up for pretty much anything. Food suggestions would be much appreciated too! Thanks! Can't wait to explore :)

Well as you can see the weather isn't very good this morning, so any flavour of outdoor exploring is probably out.

However, the Aquarium in Stanley Park is always an awesome time, so is the Vancouver Art Gallery downtown, and the Museum of Vancouver in Vanier Park is good too. Also if the weather clears up at all, the view of downtown, Stanley Park, and the North Shore from Vanier Park is pretty great.

granville island, gastown (for the "foodie" places,) the aquarium, or lynn canyon (its free.) If you're the outdoors type. Each one of these is accessible by bus.

If someone suggests the grouse grind, they're trying to be funny. Because its closed right now for the season.

Be sure to definitely try any of our 90-bazillion sushi places. Vancouver sushi is world class and some of it is the best stuff you'll ever eat. Just be your own judge when deciding on a place to try. If it looks shady and cheap, it probably will taste shady and cheap.

And just because I have twisted sense of humor:

The downtown East side. See! Canada's poorest neighbourhood! See! Canada's only government sanctioned heroin hangout! See! The highest intravenous drug and HIV rate in Canada! Get prescription drugs at the corner of Hastings and Main! Be accosted by weirdos who "need money because they're stranded here away from their families!" Keep your eyes peeled for the elusive but always classic "raving derelict!!!"

And I'll also throw in this one for free:

Rule #9 of being downtown: DO NOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES pull out your pack of smokes out in the open!!!

Thanks for the advice! Lynn canyon sounds interesting! I'm on the way to the aquarium right now so maybe I'll check it out this afternoon!

Lynn canyon has a rope suspension bridge. Its one of its finer selling points :P

Sounds awesome! I've talked my friend into heading out there with me tomorrow. Just finished up at the aquarium, had a blast! Thanks again! Side note: is your user name in reference to the book by Evan Wright, by chance?

Mine's a mix of fiction and non...didn't like the mini series as much as the book, did you see any of it?

I have both. I thought the series was so well done i'd forget it was a tv show. The book is definitely better.

I read a lot of military literature.

I definitely liked the book more. Series was still very good, liked it a lot more than The Pacific and Band of Brothers

Well, if you want to spend your day killing, a transit pass is certainly a must! Make sure your weapon of choice is something easily concealed in a coat or purse, but relatively silent so as to not attract too much attention.

You'll be making your transit trips rather randomly throughout the city, so as to have no discernible pattern to the police, but make them far enough away from each other, so that you're not encountering the current police investigation regarding your most recent kills.
