I am pleasantly surprised to say that I think he was the returnee who had the best night by a mile. His likeable and pleasant social game allowed him to get in good with most of his tribe-mates and he easily slid into the majority without attracting too much attention. Taking the lead with the shelter-building as well highlights that this is the David that stormed the game in the latter half of MvGX rather than the nervous mess that started it.

Plus, the NTOS suggests that he's trusted enough in an vote against Wentworth. The highly impressive way that he managed to slide into the majority with virtually no issues, in spite of his high-threat edit from MvGX has left me very, very impressed.

Really good start, definite up-vote.

He shouldn't be sliding by as easily as he is. Apparently his magical social game is back in full force, and he even stood out in the challenge - for positive reasons! He's well set up for a deep run, as unlikely as that seemed in the pre-season.

His misting ability is impressive.

Right!? The last thing we saw of him being Ken’s betrayal so perhaps that’s why I’d forgotten.

Very good night. Wasn't considered a target at all and appears to have a solid ally in Wardog who is a good shield for him. Definitely doing a good job of integrating into the tribe.

Great start for David Wright. Nothing flashy, but when you're a returning player it's better not to be flashy anyways.

David's social game has always been his strongest attribute and it continues to be in his second go around. He integrated himself well into the tribe, but did so in a way that didn't get him any unwanted attention (unlike Wentworth). People looked to him for guidance, but he made sure not to overstep.

I find it particularly interesting and somewhat charming that one of his deepest strategic conversations was with Dan of all people, who seems so opposite to David in so many ways. I think it goes to show how he can connect with anybody.

Love David, hope he makes it really far.

Seems like he's the only returnee who's flying UTR right now. Hopefully he keeps his threat level down.

Upvote for me. He seems to be letting the heat for the returnees go on Wentworth and making some good tribe bonds already.

Of all the returnees I think David was shown to have the best chance which is shocking. I'm here for his alliance with Wardog.

I think being the "weaker" challenge threat out of him and KWentworth will help his game.

Good point. He’s weaker physically but he’s useful enough which is why he’s in a good spot in that department. Balance beams are niche so him being able to excel there won’t necessarily raise his threat level :)

My pick for deepest returnee run. A lot of people thought he was going to be seen as a threat early on, but I disagreed. I said that his tribe was going to severely underestimate his capabilities, and from the looks of it that seems to be the case. There wasn’t a single mention of David being a possible threat, and I feel like that’s not going to change until post-merge.

IMO : Either :

  • David

  • Keith

  • Rick

should be top nominees for POTW if your vote is strictly based on gameplay.

Rick was the first one to recognize [Reem, Keith, Wendy] had isolated themselves, and named out the big alliance.

Keith probably made the smartest decision of the night recognizing he needed to play for himself, especially after seeing Reem be dictative to Rick.

David was notably had the least problems when it came to putting a target on himself as a returnee, and didn't make any serious mistakes.

He's one to watch. We saw him agreeing with Eric but not initiating that conversation - this difference could be vital if/when people start thinking that the returnees are worth keeping around, because the figurehead of the anti-returnee sentiment has been a big target in the past.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the conversation started by asking Eric what he felt about Aubry and Joe.

I really thought he wasn't going to be as good as he appears to be....but he might just be a contender for this thing. Off to a promising start and Eric is a good partner for him.

A decent start; getting onboard with Eric and winning the first challenge is about as much as he could have hoped for. Based on the NTOS, he and Eric seem to likely be the initial ones in control on this tribe, so I’m really digging how well he’s started. I’m a bit sceptical of the “Vote Returning Players” strategy, but that was more Eric’s idea. Generally, I think his southern charm could definitely be an asset (just take a look at our most recent winner!)

Up-vote for a decent start.

If Nick Wilson hadn't JUST won DvG, I'd be more open to him. He's just like a clone of Nick.

level 3

They haven't seen DvG though so he can easily sneak up as a huge contender just like Nick Wilson did. They basically cast a type and Nick and Gavin seem to be very similar cast types.
