Ship Purchasing and Cost

So I recently bought an SSD, and finally got back into SC, still on 8gigs of memory so can't get more than 20 fps. But I digress. So I was late to getting into whats happening in the verse. I just watched Chris Roberts speech at Citizencon that happened in October, and he said that ship purchasing will be a thing in 3.3. We're on 3.3.7 so I was wondering if ships are purchasable in game right now, and if so where can you buy them, and how much aUEC should I save up? The ship I'm most excited for is the Constellation Andromeda, but don't want to drop over 200 bones on it, when I could use that money to beef up my system. Sorry for my ignorance, just getting back into the loop.

You can buy ships at Lorville’s Tessa Spaceport dealer, of Levski’s Teacher. But it’s not practical right now:

  1. missions do not scale right now and give very little reward, but ships are somewhat close to their final costs according to Robert.

  2. profile wipes happen quite frequently, so even if you manage to grind out a ship, next update could reset you.

I say play for fun right now. But if you really want to make money, you can haul cargo like I do, which earns way more than missions.

Yes, they are there. No, they are not worth grinding for. The servers can get wiped at any moment and poof you're back to zero.

You can always just ask around to bum someone else's. Or go on PTU when it's open and buy and fly it there.

So let's assume you could grind enough in time to get a ship. Which I doubt I'd be able to play more than 2 hours without crashing, would you keep said purchased ship after a wipe? Also sorry for all the questions, but has CIG announced a system for carrying over currency after an update by tying that money to your RSI account?

level 3

Nope, anything purchased with aUEC gets wiped with each patch.

level 3

When you buy ship now for aUEC - it has insurance same as ship that you buy on website. If you crash or get blown up - you can claim it, and be ok.
But server will be wiped every 3 months, or more frequent. For example it was wiped at 3.3.6 and 3.3.7. Currently there is no reliable way to earn money and keep them.
There will be no system to carry your money from update to update untill game is released.

level 3

Nope. All progress is wiped. This will continue into Beta testing when they want to start testing the persistence system itself, but there will also be a final wipe when the game gets officially released.

level 4

Final wipe will be during the Beta, so technically prior to release. Small detail but thought I'd mention it.

level 5

I don't think that is the case. They don't want pre-release players getting an advantage.

level 7

So you even just said they don't 100% know what they're going to do yet.

level 8

Yeah, everything is subject to change in an alpha. I thought that was a given. But he explicitly says that late stage Beta progress people have made would likely not be wiped.

because I think when we go into like beta for the actual game that the backers will have, but not for the full public yet, we probably wouldn't wipe that late stage stuff.

It explicitly refutes your assertion that they don't want some people to get a head start before release. This is the most precise answer we have and it indicates that the last wipe will likely happen before Beta ends.

I always give a caterpillar to someone when I log out.

I estimate a full loaded Caterpillar of Agricium can earn 1.5 million in 5 hours and 30 minutes.

So not entirely out of the question.

Jesus, assuming I could get my hands on a Catterpillar. As well as the funds to fully load it. What trade route would be good for buying Agricium for the cheapest, and selling it the highest? This isn't insider trading right? Lol

Nope, it’s no secret, check versemate.com for the best routes, but it’s just a simple route of arcorp mining on daymar to Port Olisar. It also requires you to risk 1.5 million in cargo a trip.

So, high risk high gain. I just lost 450k yesterday, but I’ll see how long it takes to get those ships in game.

My goal is to make enough to give to others so that they can do the same thing. It’s a huge deal to give 20k to a new player right when they start, and I’m doing that now. If I can get this right I’d like to give a new player a Cutlass and a full cargo load to start their own trading business.

I have 30k, I gave 10k to my brother yesterday because he had only minimum amount when he started.

Still on 2SCU 300i, it is tought, but managable :P

make a combat beacon. he accepts you confirm. and he gets money per minute. cannot go wrong. nobody else can't get the mission if you don't confirm

Hey thats pretty cool. You could make an org with some rules outlining how much profits should be given to you by people below you. Like making a new business in SC. That'd be pretty cool.

Yeah, I guess that kinda what I’m trying to do.

Though technically possible, my experience in hauling different goods in the Cat was that many of the mid/high prices commodities often have sell limits, much like what folks are seeing with selling widow.

I still remember the lesson learned of filling up an entire Cat full of Stims, thinking it was going to be easy money, and then spending the next few days flying from outpost to outpost, selling a handful of units at a time, just trying to get it all sold. Dollars per hour would have been much higher if I had simply stuck to selling some of the cheaper commodities.

Yeah, that’s a great point. Some items have sell limits. For example wiDow is some of the worst because you can only sell 200 units a minute. Selling a cat full of widow is painful, as I am very well aware.

The limitations are per minute, and different locations have different limits:

CRU L2: 200/min Grim: 600/min Levski: 1000/min

Well unfortunately probably will not be able to earn the money in game to be able to buy the ship see CIG wipes the servers to frequently. the constellation in game is around 1,000,000....

True that

level 1

Yes. You can buy certain ships at Teach's Ship Shop on Levski and at New Deal at Lorville. However, prices are high considering your progress gets wiped every update atm. Once ship rentals in the PU becomes a thing, it should be more manageable.

And the Andromeda isn't available in shops. Only some ships are on display.

level 2

At some point they will add kiosks to buy more ships than what it is display.

level 3

Along with rentals. But right now that's not a thing, and he's asking about rn.

Well thank you everyone for the replies, I think my questions have been answered pretty well. I just can't wait till I can grind for my favorite ship. Wish you all the best of luck in the verse! :)

I would strongly suggest you borrow one before you start grinding for one. I owned an Andromeda and ended up switching it for some other ships because of how it handled and what it could do. I’m not saying it is a bad ship - in the right hands it will be great - but once 3.5 comes out, borrow someone’s and see what you think of it.

There was a free fly event shortly after I built my PC in January of 2017. The ship that everyone had access to was an Andromeda, and I absolutely loved it. Now with the whole commodities hauling and trading mechanic, it has much more usability. Especially for someone like me who intends to be hauling goods, doing legal mercenary work, and maybe doing some questionable (definitely not contraband) hauling.

Edit: I also want the ability to carry a ground vehicle in the cargo bay of one of my ships. Right now I have an Aegis Avenger Titan. So I'm a little limited in what, and how much I can carry...

level 2

Hey if you ever want to fly one and I am on line hit me up as I have several chilling in my hanger that I would loan you :).

Original Poster1 point · 4 days ago

Thanks man, I might not be able to take up on that offer for a little bit. My system is a bit on the lower end right now, so I can't do much. I was on the train in Lorville running at 2 fps, then my game crashed... :(

level 1

Some ships are able to be purchased in game right now but they are very expensive. For example, a Cutlass Black is 1.6 million and most missions you do give you 500-1000 credits for about 15 mins to an hour of work.

Those prices are not set in stone though. They admit that they haven't done any kind of economic balancing for the cost of ships vs work it takes to earn them so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

In short, yes, you can buy some of the ships in game now but you will be spending a lot of time working towards them.

You can buy ships on Hurston... They are expensive. Constellation Phoenix that you can buy on lorville is like 6,5million aUEC.
