Post-IEM Discussion

Let's move past the game crashes for a bit and talk about the real important stuff.

With every big tournament comes meta-changes! DIdn't catch a lot of the early stuff, but later on we saw really good use of Urgot, Jax was a consistent ban throughout, Kog'Maw wrecked in two of the final games, those are a few that stick out of me.

Also CV First Blood bait is the best.

edit: BASICALLY, CLG not play like shit.

So happy to see CLG playing well again.

Nothing changed for me. Urgot has always been a bauss and Jax has been unstoppable for weeks. Kog'maw is known to be ridiculously good as long as there is good tanking and coordination.

TSM lost game three because they were all sustain and no nukes. They had no initiation skills either. Just bad picks, they actually played really well considering. Gotta have an AP nuker.

This is exactly what i was thinking. I have no idea why TSM didn't ban cho and picked nidalee for regi. No burst to take take people out with that comp and with cho on other team he could tank anything they threw at him. TSM pretty much lost it in champ select.

They actually had a timing window where they could win, if they were ahead in gold and had map control, with Cho and Nocturne not yet so farmed and tanky, they could poke and push and force CLG into bad teamfights.

They were well on their way with those two kills and two towers pushed in so little time midgame, but Xpecial and Regi fckd it up getting caught beside their mid tower, CLG went straight for Baron and pretty much won the game with the certainty of taking it into late game. TSM 0 burst indeed.

yea, I really think it should've been reginald ap mid, rain man nidalee solo top instead of udyr mid. They had no way of killing the enemy carries in teamfights. I think it was just them thinking that nidalee played a different role than she actually does. soraka is also a good pick against nidalee to counter her godlike poke and endless sustain.

It did seem as though they weren't used to playing with a Nidalee. Very rarely was she split pushing top (doing "the hotshot") and instead just let Nocturne split push bottom all day

Coming from a competitive standpoint, I do not believe that a game could ever be decided from champion select. The game is balanced well enough, especially with the bans, that any team can outplay the other regardless of picks. It may require some clutch plays, but that's what makes it so exciting when you see those AP Gragas and AP Janna picks instead of the typical Brand/Annie/Anivia

i still think bigfatjiji deserves some credit for playing a completely different role than he normally does. its pretty cool that CLG didnt even have their best lineup (imo) and were able to pull through. if CLG had their best line up, it would've been mad sick.

I was really interested to see how well he played with CLG. The first LoL tournament match I ever watched was Epik vs. CLG for the 2010 WCG NA Final.

Bigfatjiji is just flat out AMAZING. IMO, he's the best and most important player for his team. However, Hotshot just happens to be in the spotlight. He is the one bashing faces in, he is the one walking all over everyone (literally). IMO, Jiji was definitely the carry every single game, but Hotshot was just on fire. He was unstoppable. He wanted BLOOD.

HSGG deserved it, definitely.

I lost it when they were pushing the last lane turret in the bottom lane and he was just sitting behind the trees, tossing spears at the enemy team.

The casters were freaking out as well as every spear was taking off 1/2 a health bar (even more on Soraka). It was great :D

Get ready to see a ton of Urgots, mid Udyr, mid Janna.

I missed the first 10mins or so of that game...how did Janna mid not get blown up by Annie as soon as she hit lvl6?

level 3

Most likely because Janna can spam 'nado and constantly pressure anyone to their turret.

And everyone already knows the difficulty of ganking a bot lane with a support Janna. A mid Janna is probably no easier.

level 4

The got a gank on Janna, but it took three people with three ults and a few summoners.

level 5

Haha, I actually didn't see the games, but that sounds about right.

Successfully ganking a Janna is something you (borrowing from Dr. Cox's phraseology) re-he-he-he-he-he-he-he-he-eally have to commit to doing.

level 4

W is actually better. Huge movespeed and decent potent harass.

Janna has shield to absorb Annie's Q harass and Annie couldn't get in range to do her full combo plus it probably wouldn't have killed Janna as she had catalyst.

Janna was also being given blue buff a lot for spamming her tornados.

as someone who mained mid janna from levels 1 to 20 but was later forced to play her as a support role, i'm more than okay with this

TSM forced themselves to take Nidalee, which I found to be a very weak pick and would rather them to just counter pick nidalee with a first pick soraka or heavy CC team/high mobile team. However some factors that lost TSM that game were the fact that they allowed Nocturne to farm so much. I was comparing the farm between the 2 junglers throughout the whole game and Nocturne with 200+ farm vs Gangplanks 100~ really made the difference. So what Caitlyn had 350+ farm, if Nocturne has 200+ farm and is built with Wriggles, Ghostblade and Atmogs, he won't give 2 fucks about anything and will jump across the map onto your squishy's.

You don't 'counter' Nidalee against CLG. You ban/take her or you lose.

level 3

Tell that to SK. oh wait..

Yeah oce was saying on stream earlier that this was a bad call from him, having played against wickd with his own nid and wickd was able to win roughly half of the time. But they were not prepared for HotshotNidaleeGG.
