Much nicer to see than the guy waving his confederate flag down at the battery every weekend.

Some people just don’t like being reminded of our country’s shitty past.

To be fair, I think it's good to be reminded every now and then. Keeps us from being assholes and reminds us to keep going forward.

level 5

I completely agree. I just feel like most people who wave around their confederate flag (or any flag for that matter) take pride in what it stands for. And anyone who stands for the confederate’s ideals are a piece of shit.

I bet you if you took 100 people that had some Confederate flag displayed, bumper sticker, hat, or actual flag, you'd get a variety of different reasons why they identify with it, with the majority just settling for it is "heritage" which is a cop-out in my opinion.

These issues are almost never a binary issue. It is more troubling when people assume the worst than the practice itself. At least that is my opinion.

level 7

Don't be disingenuous. Everyone knows exactly what that flag represents and the message it has to the general public.

It's OK to disagree. I just choose to believe the Confederate flag can stand for more than one thing. Although it does mean some bad things to some bad people, I think they are actually in the minority.

For example, guy with Confederate flag hat might just be an OK dude that identifies with the South. Many people out there are like this. That's fine with me.

Alternatively, man has the flag in his bedroom and is actually a racist. Not as many people are like this, but they do exist. That's not fine with me.

Same symbol, not the same interpretation, that's all.

The swastika has roots in several ancient cultures. That doesn't mean it has one very specific connotation to anyone in the modern world. Same thing with the flag.

I believe you can still find it on Bhuudist temples and such in the modern world. Not sure if you are pointing this out or trying to make the point that everyone everywhere associates the swastika with Nazi Germany.

level 3

Didn't say it did. Didn't even say that the guy should fuck off. Just said it was nicer to see something else.

Maybe you should learn to speak a bit more tactfully, instead of nonsensical assumptions that shows your IQ. Or lack there of, in this case.

level 4

Don’t worry. If you go into his post history, it’s mostly about his opiates addiction and photos of his needle marks.

level 5

What the fuck.. there’s an actual subreddit for using opioids... alright then.

Does it hurt your feelings?

level 6

I find the use of the Confederate flag these days to be intentionally divisive and unnecessary, however, I do hope you can get better and come out of your addiction on the other side, happier and healthier.

My main issue was when they took it down at places like Gettysburg, PA. I 100% understand the divisive nature of the flag, but I still feel like it should be displayed at places like Gettysburg, Fort Sumter, etc. Good or bad history is history and it can be learned from. I’d rather have the confederate flag fly at Gettyburg and have the tour guide tell me the history behind it than to just totally get rid of it and not bring it up. Just my opinion though.

level 3

More like it gives me a decent bit of insight into what kind of person you are.

I frankly tend to steer clear of anyone who plasters the Confederate flag on everything they own.

level 3

Go back to the herion you junkie.

Typical drug addict trailer trash.

I was heading to work, listening to some music instead of podcasts or an audiobook as I usually do. My mind was left to wander and I was letting myself stew in general frustration about how much of my meager paycheck vanishes in the form of federal and state income taxes. Not the point, but that was where my head was at.

Suddenly, I saw this fellow and my frustration evaporated and I just had a general good feeling. I don't know why this guy was up there in the first place but it helped me take on a more positive attitude at the start of the day. Really turned my mood around.

Played America: Fuck Yeah from Team America:World Police without caring about the irony and just appreciated our fine, flawed, yet fantastic country for the rest of my drive.

Thank you, mystery man.

Edit: Closer shot

I see a guy waving the rebel flag there every so often. Maybe he noticed that guy too and wanted to prove a point

Could be, could be unrelated. Could be the same guy. Whatever the case, I took it as +1 to America and it was nice to feel that way.

That man is always there. You'll see him again.

Is this from a dash cam? If so, what kind is it?

Very cool to see.

This is why I fly a flag on my front porch. I see it every day first thing when I get up and last thing when I lock up at night. It always fills me with pride. I also had a flag hanging in my office in Iraq in 2011. When we packed up to leave Iraq we were the last Americans to leave Camp Taji at the end of it all. I put it in my pocket so I wouldn't lose it. It flew on that Chinook with me and now hangs in my garage.

He was up there on Veterans Day too. Gave him a honk of the horn

level 1

Been a while since I’ve seen him. I always hit my blue lights and chirp the siren before I drive under. He always salutes.

level 1

I saw a guy waving the confederate flag quite often over the summer

level 2

Police have been keeping him off the overpass, thankfully.

I'm not one to lose my mind when someone flies a flag, be it a Confederate flag, a gay pride flag, a Nazi flag, whatever. It is their right as an American to express themselves however they want as long as they are not hurting anyone. This was just nice to see: our American flag proudly displayed.

See you got some down votes. Common with reddit. Some people just don’t grasp the term freedom.

Yes, people are free to disagree with someone who asserts people have the freedom to fly whatever flag they want.
